Nice lazy paddle downstream, with the water as low as it is there will be little current, however the shoals may be more prominent. Some of the springs may show themselves better than when the water is high or due to the low water levels they might not be following much at all.
Launch: CR 484 Bridge (tubers exit) - Currently under construction so we'll watch closer to time and see if we need to modify this paddle.
We'll start at the bridge and paddle upstream past KP Hole to the head springs, and then a leisurely paddle back to the beginning. Restaurant not decided as of 12/21
This is a 3 possibly 4 island tour.
Islands Atsena Otie, Snake key, Seahorse key and possibly North key. This
will not be like past trips. I
suggest strong paddlers and longer boats. The run with all 4 keys is about 14
miles round trip on open water. Please
bring your “A” game.
The plan: This is not a race! We will be out for 4 to 6
hours depending on winds. We will land on each island for breaks. First stop,
Atsena Otie key, second rest stop Snake key.
After landing on Snake key we’ll go around to the Gulf side and if we
have enough water we’ll go through the Lagoon on Snake key, otherwise we’ll go
around the island and head to Seahorse key for lunch (bring your lunch). Then
we’ll circumnavigate Seahorse key. Once on the other side the group will decide
if we should continue to North key or head back to Cedar key.
The Tides are right: low tide at 10:39 am. We can ride low
tide out. High tide is at 4:36pm so we don’t have to fight the tide during our
return.
Make sure you call/email me leaving your phone # If the weather looks chancy
the trip will be canceled. If I have your number I’ll call you.
Great location and fun times for this festival - if camping get your spot soon!! For camping conntact Reserve America at http://floridastateparks.reserveamerica.com or 800.326.3521. Some motels near Sopchoppy in Crawfordville, Panavea & Carrabelle. For more information about this event go to:
Up and back paddle from Riversports to the state park, looking at manatees the whole way. Water is clear and "warmer" so the manatees flock to this area like they do other springs across the state. Location for eat after the paddle to be Groups Choice.
This is part of our annual cleanup on the Ocklawaha. We'll be going from Rays to Gores this weekend and in a couple of weeks from Gores Landing to Eureka.
We'll be working with the County to secure parking passes so that we'll not have to pay the launch/parking fee. If all goes well at Rays you will be allowed to drive in and unload boat and gear and then pull your vehicle outside of the park entrance until the shuttle takes place. You will need to get a pass from the TC the morning of, to place on your dash.
While the club will have trash bags, it would be great for you to bring gloves, and "grabbers" if you have them so that you can reach items outside hands reach. Where possible we'd like to get out and walk a bit to clean up the banks, especially between the confluence of Ocklawaha and just below the bridge.
The RV park is changing hands and so we might not be able to utilize their ramp to unload trash - we will be checking more into this as we get closer to the date. So if you have a choice in boats - a larger boat may be great.
Continuing our annual cleanup on the Ocklawaha. Today from Gores Landing to Eureka East. Bring some "grabbers" to reach items outside your reach. We may get out in a few places and clean the banks. A large boat can come in handy to store some debris - should you have choices.
