Silver River Moonlight Paddle August 25, 2007 TC - Wayne Knudson Report by Wayne Knudson
Well, almost. The moon was up there but filtered by a heavy overcast cloud cover. August 25th at the schduled 6 PM put in, it looked like a no show due to a promise of rain. But by 6:05 we had 17 Aquaholics unloading crafts. All afternoon the phone rang inquiring if the trip was still on. I promised we would be there, but hold departure depending on conditions at the time. Padlers are a brave lot and since Aquaholism is a paddling disease, where one launch demands another and another and one more for the river, we set off. We had a great time running against the mild current broken by a stop or two along the way. Darkness had us covered when we reached the State Park ramp. During our break there, our attention was drawn to the lightening off to our south. Best judgment said maybe had pushed our luck and had gone far enough. The return voyage was smooth, rain free and safe although, we kinda raced to beat the weather. We loaded up for home at 9:30 PM, the least time spent on such a trip. What a fantastic group -makes me glad I'm an Aquaholic. |
