The Honey Prairie fire started from a lightning strike, with the following weeks of drying, strong winds and available fuels it has grown to over 280,000 acres consuming and merging with other fires in the process - Paxton Rd (lightning), Sawfly (equipment), Durdin Prairie (lightning) and meeting up with Race Pond(under investigation), and is very close to the Secret fire (lightning).
Within the swamp, when it is really dry and we are now at reading similar to the major drought of 1954-55 - you can only fight the fire where it comes up on the hill - usually private timber company lands. It will take a major rain event - like "RAIN WITH A NAME" to extinguish this fire, I expect the fire to grow to near 400,000 acres before contained. Mark
